Introducing: The AUL Class of 2018!
Academy of Urban Learning is honored to have awarded thirty students their high school diploma, the largest graduating class ever for this tiny school. Friends and family gathered in the North High School Auditorium on Thursday, May 31st, 2018 to watch as their loved one became a high school graduate.
On the evening before graduation, AUL graduates and staff shared a family-style dinner together at Maggiano’s Little Italy. Over fettuccine, chicken parmigiana and cheesecake, students and staff shared memories and stories, and honored dreams for the future.
AUL has two very special traditions for graduating seniors. First, the school community cheering graduates out of the building on their last day of school. Seniors are treated to this memorable experience at the end of their last trimester (November, February, and May), and the whole school gets to celebrate their accomplishments. The second special tradition is the Graduation Rose Ceremony, where each graduate is given two roses with which to honor and thank two important people who have helped them on their journey. Rose recipients include friends, close family, extended family, and teachers. It is a supreme honor to receive a rose from an AUL graduate! It is a reminder that while your journey is your own, others play uniquely important parts in it, and you in theirs.
Extra congratulations to AUL’s co-Valedictorians, Amairany Perez and Gerado Gonzalez. And thank you to our keynote speaker and Board of Directors member, Lori Powell.
Graduates are moving on to full-time employment, Community College of Denver, Emily Griffith Technical College, and Denver Public Schools’ 18 to 21 Program.
Join us in congratulating this new era of promising adults!
